Acne

Acne is a skin condition which has plugged pores (blackheads and whiteheads), inflamed pimples, and deeper lumps (nodules) and occurs on the face, as well as the neck, chest, back, shoulders, and upper arms. While acne is most often associated with teenagers, adults can develop acne as well. Acne often clears up on its own without treatment. However, severe acne can be disfiguring, as well as cause emotional trauma to the patient, and it should be treated by a dermatologist.

Treatments include topical creams, gels, or lotions; antibiotics taken by mouth, or special treatments such as microdermabrasion and chemical peels.

BLU-U® treatment for Acne

In addition to its actinic keratoses indication (see above), BLU-U Blue Light Photodynamic Therapy is also a non-drug therapy for moderate acne. The BLU-U is a unique, specially designed blue light that kills the P. acnes bacteria in your skin. BLU-U acne treatments are gentle and typically well tolerated by patients.

What is BLU-U Blue Light Treatment?

The BLU-U is a unique blue light that kills the P. acnes bacteria in your skin. Treatments are simple – you sit with your face close to the light for a short time at a schedule set up by your doctor, approximately a 17-minute session about once or twice per week. The treatments may go on for five weeks or so. It’s safe, it’s not hot, it’s not painful. After some weeks, the blue light can help control your acne.

The BLU-U blue light is available in the office of doctors who specialize in skin treatments. You can ask your doctor if your case of moderate acne is right for BLU-U blue light treatment. If you are looking for an alternative to medications or antibiotics, it might be just what you need.
